Providing full- and part-time holistic education to learners ages 5 - 14.

Thriving relationships are the heart of learning.

Learning is natural to being human! Perhaps the most valuable gift we can give our children is learning how to learn for life. At SAU we understand that the foundation for life-long learning is emotional well-being. When children are surrounded by caring and supportive relationships, their confidence blossoms, they can embrace challenges, and they come alive with curiosity and creativity.

Education happens in a community, not a single building.

We are here to create a thriving learning ecosystem for everyone in our community. Our young people are the focal point, but the learning doesn’t stop with them. At SAU parents build meaningful relationships with other parents—learning, co-creating, and fostering community. Educators are skilled guides and mentors, both to children, and to parents—and they are learners, too, modeling what life-long learning looks and feels like.

The SAU community brings support and comfort in helping my children grow not only academically, but also emotionally. It provides a safe place where my children can play, learn and form lasting connections. SAU fosters an environment where connection is at the heart of the school, where all that are a part of the community are seen and heard..”

Ready to take the next step?

School Around Us is a small multi-age learning center. We value small class sizes, and are dedicated to keeping an educator to student ratio of 1:9. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. All children, ages 5-14, who enroll at SAU must be (or become) registered homeschoolers in the state of Maine.

School Around Us welcomes students, families, faculty, and staff of all races, ethnicities, cultural and religious heritages, socio-economic backgrounds, geographic origins, gender identities, sexual orientations, and family structures. We reject discrimination in all its forms. Together we will undertake the work necessary to prepare our students and ourselves for the challenges and joys of life in a diverse society.
