Classes and part-time enrollment options for Homeschoolers

Theme Class Description:
The 6-week Theme class will focus on The Civil War & Slavery.
Theme is: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday ~ 1:00-3:00 pm
Cost: $240
This class takes an experiential approach to the era of the Civil War. Through historical information and creative interpretation, students will explore one of the most divisive times in American history and gain a deeper understanding of both Northern and Southern perspectives. This class is designed for children ages 5 - 14. Beginning with the topic of slavery, a hands on approach will be taken as we delve into themes, including the underground railroad, culture, ethics, political leaders, U.S. geography, and film making.
Nature Explorers:
Nature Explorers is: Tuesdays 9:30-12:00 pm ~ There are 2 six-week sessions: March 30 - May 4 and May 11 - June 15
Cost: $150
In this class students, aged 6-9 years old, will study and explore nature in four different habitats (field, pond, forest and stream) and watch spring come to life. The children will spend the majority of time out-of-doors exploring with binoculars, nets, magnifying glasses, and guide books. They will also sing songs, play games, create art, do experiments, and learn about the cycles of life. The intention is for the children to develop a deep connection with and strong respect for nature.
The teacher, Leah Wentworth, has a degree in Environmental Science and has over ten years of teaching experience. She has a passion for sharing her love of nature with others. The class will utilize her 100 acre farm which is adjacent to The School Around Us.

FULL-DAY (part-time enrollment) Option
School Around Us is providing FULL-DAY options. This session runs for six weeks: 1/5/10 - 2/11/10.
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday Option:
Your child will join in the Academic schedule of our school. Your child will join the age appropriate Peer Group and their scheduled classes and breaks.
The school day is 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Therefore your registration will include a phone conversation and a meeting with our homeschool liaison to ensure that we can meet the needs of your child and that you understand the school’s philosophy of education.
