Current HOmeschool Intensives

Around the World for the Holidays: A study of culture and traditions.

Wednesdays: November 29 and December 6 & 13

During this holiday season we are offering three one day Homeschool Workshops. Each workshop will focus on a different culture and their unique celebrations during the winter season. Workshop days will center around that culture’s traditions, and the history of how that holiday came to be. We will be cooking, crafting, dancing, singing, and learning about their daily life around this time of year. We hope to touch upon a variety of countries on different continents and include some geography and general cultural study.

9:00 AM- 3:00 PM    $35/day or $100 for all 3 days

Please join us for another wonderful School Around Us Music Enrichment Day!

This music program utilizes rhythm and song in a manner that brings together music, literature, social studies, and team building. Participants will be ushered through an introduction to conga drums, shekerse, agogo bells, improvisational and spontaneous engagement. The older students will also examine cultural context and how the intersection of the African and European arts in the Western Hemisphere impacts today's society.

This Music Intensive brought to you by the School Around Us and The Theater Ensemble of Color introduces students to the social relationship between people and music. Students will be exploring their personal relationship to music and how music affects society and culture. We will consider how different technologies throughout history affect the ways we incorporate music into our lives, both as listeners and as creators. Students will discover influential artists and movements throughout history. They will learn the ways that music has been used by different cultures to share information, to relay and preserve history, and ignite social change. The program will culminate with a performance of selections from various musical eras, as well as an original piece devised collectively by the students.
